Here’s a bit of good news to brighten up your day if you’re a fan of Apple products: MacBook has new 13 and 15-inch MacBook Air models in the works. According to a source who has some insight on the matter, 9to5Mac, both will include the M3 chip. 9to5Mac also states that Apple will drop a version of the MacBook Pro 13-inch that will have the M3 chip.
This M3 chip will be similar to the M2 chip in that it will have an 8-core CPU. However, this chip will supposedly be manufactured according to the TSMC’s latest 3nm process which should help make the new devices have better performance and be powered more efficiently. This makes sense considering the fact that the M2 chip as well as the Pro and Max variant is based on TSMC’s second generation 5nm process.
There have been no announcements, yet, when exactly the new MacBooks are to be announced. However, if one considers that WWDC 2023 is happening in June, that just might be the time Apple makes the announcement. Last year Apple revealed their 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with the M2 chip at WWDC 2022. So, it makes sense that this upcoming June could be the time that an announcement is made.
Other reputable sources have agreed that it’s a possibility for Apple to release the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBooks with the M3 chip. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said that it was a plausible idea that both models might be launched between late spring or early summer.
One industry source doesn’t think June will be the month the 15-inch MacBook will be released. Ross Young, an industry analyst, thinks that the 15-inch MacBook will launch even earlier that June- in April, to be exact. So, there have been some conflicting reports about these possible releases. There’s also a question of whether these new releases will have the M2 or updated M3 chip.
There are many reasons Apple doesn’t release information right away. As usual, we will all have to just wait and see. The folks at Apple release info when they think it’s best and even if the masses are super excited to know more, we sometimes will just have to wait for Apple’s timeline. One thing’s for sure, though. When Apple does release information about a new product or the product itself, it will be well worth the wait.
